6) Volkswagen Golf R
2.0 Litre Turbocharged 4-Cylinder | 306 bhp
I couldn’t do this without the family favourite Golf R. Everybody knows somebody with a Golf R, and for good reason – a 306 bhp AWD hatchback that makes any man feel like a racing driver. That being said, the Golf R made 306 bhp (310 PS) during a short peak before dieselgate after which it was returned to 296 bhp (300 PS). The tuners new favourite, many have modified these to well in excess of 400 bhp thanks to a plentiful aftermarket of bolt-ons from the likes of Revo & APR. The Golf R has famously overtaken the longstanding GTI bloodline in total sales for new Golfs in recent years.
